Safe URL Shortener
This tool checks that a web address is a public http or https URL and gives it a short link. The site has no server, so the link is browser-local only: it is saved in this browser and works only here. It is not a public short link and will not work on another device or browser.
Runs in your browser
Free, no sign-up. Validation and storage happen in your browser. The address is saved in local storage on this device and is never uploaded or sent in analytics.
Safe URL Shortener
Validate a public HTTP/HTTPS URL and save a short link in this browser.
Browser-local only. This site has no server, so short links are not public. They are saved in this browser and work only here: another device, another browser, or a cleared browser will not redirect.
This tool accepts only public HTTP and HTTPS URLs, removes fragments, blocks unsafe schemes, and stores short links only in this browser. Shared links require the same local record to redirect. Do not paste URLs containing secrets: they are kept in this browser's local storage until you press Clear.
Saved short links
Shortened URLs will appear here after you create them.
How to use the Safe URL Shortener
- Read the browser-local notice at the top: links you create work only in this browser.
- Paste a public http or https URL. Do not paste URLs that contain tokens or other secrets.
- Press the shorten button. The tool rejects unsafe, private or malformed addresses with a reason.
- Copy the short link. Opening it in this same browser sends you to the original address.
- Your last 20 links are listed below so you can copy or open them again.
Worked example
Sample data
https://example.com/products/summer-sale?utm_source=newsletter
Short link: https://smnify.com/tools/url-shortener#<7-character code> Opens in this browser: https://example.com/products/summer-sale?utm_source=newsletter Opens on another device or browser: nothing (the record is not there)
The code is random each time, so the placeholder is shown instead of a fixed value. The original address and the code are stored together in this browser's local storage, which is why the link works only here.
How it works
Why these links are browser-local
A public shortener needs a server that remembers which code points to which address. This site is static and has no backend, so there is nowhere to keep that mapping for other people.
Instead the tool saves each address in your browser's local storage under a short code. The short link carries only the code in the part after the # sign. When you open it in a browser that has the saved record, the page looks the code up and forwards you. Anywhere else the code matches nothing.
What counts as a safe URL
Only http and https addresses with a public domain name are accepted. The tool rejects other schemes such as javascript: or data:, localhost, private network IPv4 addresses and single-label hostnames. An address typed without a scheme gets https:// added.
Any #fragment at the end of your address is removed. Safe here means the address is well formed and public-looking; it does not mean the destination site is trustworthy or free of malware.
Redirect checks
Local storage can be edited by anyone with access to your browser. Before forwarding, the tool validates the stored address again, and stored records that fail validation are ignored.
Keeping secrets out
Because the original address is stored in plain text in your browser, do not shorten URLs that contain access tokens, password-reset codes or private query parameters. Clearing site data removes all saved links.

Frequently asked questions
Will my short link work on another device?
No. The link works only in the browser where you created it, because the address is saved in that browser's local storage and the site has no server to share it. On another device or browser the code finds nothing.
Can I share the short link with other people?
No. Anyone who opens it will not have your saved record, so it will not forward them. To share a destination, send them the original URL.
Where is my original URL stored?
In this browser's local storage, in plain text, for up to your 20 most recent links. It is not uploaded. Clearing site data or using a private window removes it.
Why was my URL rejected?
Only http and https addresses with a public domain are accepted. Localhost, private IPv4 addresses, single-word hostnames and other schemes such as javascript: are blocked.
Does safe mean the destination website is trustworthy?
No. The check covers the address format and blocks risky kinds of address. It does not scan the site behind it for phishing or malware.
Do you offer public, trackable short links?
Not here. This tool has no backend, so it cannot host public links or click statistics. Use a dedicated link-shortening service if you need those.
